
Memorial Day Weekend is a great time to visit historic Fort Clinch State Park, which is holding a special program to honor those who served during World War II. (Hopefully, this stormy weather we've been experiencing will pass by before the holiday weekend.)
Another nice event for the kids coming up next month is a free fishing event (June 13) at the Fort Clinch Pier
(pictured above). The kids learn about saltwater fishing (see more below). Summertime is upon us, in Fernandina Beach! Just two more weeks of school here in the Nassau County, Florida school district, then it's summer vacation fun time for local kids.

WORLD WAR TWO EVENT AT FORT CLINCH, AMELIA ISLAND, MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND 2009
Date: Saturday, May 23, 2009. 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, May 24, 2009. 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Fort Clinch State Park will hold a Memorial Weekend program in honor of the men and women who served in World War II. Visitors can explore military displays, view memorabilia, and learn about the uniforms, weapons, vehicles, and lifestyle of those who were part of the war during the 1940’s. The event will take place on May 23 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and May 24 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Bring your family to experience a piece of history! Admission to the park is $5.00 per vehicle at the front gate and $2.00 per person to enter the fort. Children under 6 are free.

KID'S FISHING CLINIC AT FORT CLINCH, AMELIA ISLAND
Date: Saturday, June 13, 2009. 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Bring your family to enjoy a fun day of saltwater fishing. This special FREE event provides a great opportunity for children to learn about Florida’s marine ecosystems and ethical angling skills.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Fort Clinch State Park, Friends of Fort Clinch, Inc. and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will conduct the 2009 Kids’ Fishing Clinic on June 13. Children ages 4-16 can participate in the free clinic that offers fishing lessons such as knot tying, fishing ethics, tackle, habitat and casting. All activities will be held on the newly renovated Atlantic Fishing Pier at Fort Clinch State Park on Amelia Island. The first 500 kids will take home their own rod and reel combo. A free hot dog lunch is provided to every participant.
