- Life in an island town has its perks. Walks on the beach, finding little treasures along the way. Bike riding around the island (and on the beach at low tide), boating in the waterways...Coastal nature -- the marshland, maritime forest, local wildlife. The beautiful oak trees draped with moss...hiking, camping, fishing at Fort Clinch State Park (northern-end) and quiet walks around the Amelia Island State Park (the southern tip of the island)...The ambiance of the quaint historic district of Fernandina with lovely Victorian architecture...The laid-back, small-town atmosphere, in general.
