About Me:
Publisher, managing editor: W.B. Lawson
Amelia Island Living digital magazine, Florida Fine Living Media.
BIO: Transplanted to Amelia Island almost 17 years ago from New York. Missed New York the first few years. But now wouldn't be able to cope with the northeast's winters (you get spoiled when you live on a Florida barrier island!) Although would love to see a beautiful snowfall, it's been too long.
Publishing & editorial background: Newspaper (regional) and investment newsletter (a decade working in financial services publishing). Formerly Series 7 licensed (NYSE General Securities Rep) when last working in the industry with Merrill Lynch. Florida real estate licensee (don't "sell" anymore but occasionally write about real estate topics, as well as tourism, community, and lifestyle articles, blog.)
What Do You Enjoy Most About Amelia Island, Florida if you live here or visit?
Living on a resort island means lots of nice events for the tourists that can be enjoyed by the locals, too -- lifestyle "perks." But in general, enjoy walks on the beach, finding little treasures along the way. Bike riding around the island (and on the beach at low tide), boating in the waterways...Coastal nature -- the marshland, maritime forest, local wildlife. Even the backyard birdfeeder is fun to watch and see who stops by. The beautiful oak trees draped with moss...Having state parks right in your backyard is great! Hiking, camping, fishing at Fort Clinch State Park (northern-end) and quiet walks around the Amelia Island State Park (the southern tip of the island)... The ambiance of the quaint historic district of Fernandina with lovely Victorian architecture...The laid-back, small-town atmosphere, in general. Plus, island hopping to nearby barrier islands offers lots of easy excursions. Cumberland Island, Georgia just next door is one of the best places to spend some peaceful time. Period.
