Where to stay really depends on what you like to do best and how much you want to spend. If you're a golfer, Amelia Island Plantation, Amelia's Ritz-Carlton, and Summer Beach Resort are the oceanfront golf resorts with wonderful amenities -- golf, tennis, oceanfront pools, etc. If you like quaint inns but want to be oceanfront, check out Elizabeth Pointe Lodge located right on the beach. See more info about all of Amelia Island's inns including those located in Fernandina's historic district (which puts you near the Fernandina harbor and marina -- charter boats, boutiques, restaurants) by looking at Amelia Island Living eMagazine's bed & breakfast inn... The newest hotel on the island is the Residence Inn by Marriott, walkable to the beach along sidewalks. You've picked a good month to visit, as April is typically wonderful weather -- not too hot and not too cold! W.B.L.

We are leaving in 10 days for our sixth annual Amelia visit....you will love the Island! Agree with the first post that it depends on what you like and how much you want to spend. Elizabeth Pointe Lodge is a B & B right on the beach--very nice and has won many awards. They also rent condos and houses. We are staying at their Coral Sands two-bedroom condo unit, also right on the beach about 2-3 houses down from them, and reasonably priced. Wonderfully large balcony directly on the sand, where the Ocean lulls you 24-hours a day! Ahhh! (www.ameliaislandvacation.com). We have always stayed in one of the Coral Sands units and love being on this quiet stretch of beach, which is still very close to downtown. There are also condos next door at Oceans of Amelia (smaller balconies). Unless you prefer all the amenities of a resort, I would recommend Elizabeth Pointe Lodge or a condo/house on the north end of the Island along Fletcher for best beach proximity and to experience the true flavor of the Island. The places on the southern end are not quite as close to the Ocean and tend to be pricier. There is a also a new hotel on the north end by Main Beach--I think it's called Amelia Inn? All of the B & B's in downtown Fernandina are very charming, though we've never stayed at one so I can't comment from personal experience. Have a fabulous time on Amelia in April!
