The Pirate Parade, a favorite local event, will be held Thursday at 6 pm, April 29, 2010 along Ash and Centre Streets (theme in 2010 is "Name That Tune"). The biggest tourism event held on Amelia Island, Shrimp Festival typically attracts 130,000 to 150,000 people to Amelia Island, Florida over the weekend. The fireworks are always a big hit, so head downtown Friday evening, April 30, 2010, to the Fernandina Harbor for the pirate invasion, and fireworks display (pirates sail into the harbor around 9:30, Friday evening, followed by the fireworks around 9:45). Over the weekend, attend the art show on Saturday (9 to 5) and Sunday (10 to 5). The local Island Art Association handles the fine arts and crafts, and screens potential participants. Realize that this is a fantastic art show, featuring over 300 juried artists and craftsmen, reportedly recognized as one of the best art events in North America by Sunshine Artist Magazine. Come to Fernandina for food and fun, (the bulk of the food vendors line Front Street near the harbor), listen to live entertainment at the riverfront stage, and hit the Kids' Korner. The kids migrate toward this family fun zone, with bungee, rock climbing, spinning gyro gym, slide, bouncy rooms, and other concessions.
